Another Kane

Nap is a Kane son from the Imported Cloud breeding. I named him because I always bet he was going to be the 'sleeper' of the group that would just surprise the heck out of all of us.

Nap is so much like his father ... I have accidentally put him away in his father's kennel more times than one. I have almost placed him a few times ... and something happens (never his fault) and he does not leave. I guess I do believe that saying "All things happen for a reason".

Genetics

A little comment line got going on Facebook today about the genetics of some of the little things our dogs do. Kane's kids and grandkids were the topic. I then went and looked at a few photos and of course ran across a photo of Terry Parrish's Rhys (Kane's grandfather on his sire's side and his greatgrandfather on his dam's side - he is double bred on him).

Yep! Kane reminds me of Rhys. That is something I am very proud to own!!

Kane is my boy ... I adore him greatly, he has taught me a great deal on the trial field, and just about life overall.

Since I have the "little guys" I thought the costumes were appropriate!!
Kane penned his Chihuahua "sheep" with no gripping!!
(for those wondering the Chihuahuas are from left to right "Nessie" one of my hand raised orphans, "Ren" a silly male I am trying to show, and "Chewee" the old man that is a rescue.)

Nessie as you can see thought the costumes were fun!! Chewee on the other hand patiently waited for it to be over LOL!

Hanging out with relatives!!

The pups had a busy week this past week. I made a trip to the UKC Premier show in Richmond, IN (that was a hot one as my AC was not working in the van!). I also took the 'crew' to a friend's sheep farm near Indianapolis.

While at the sheep farm, the pups ran with all the adults. It was a wonderful thing for them to learn to respect their elders (including Grandpa Kane who is in the photo above with some of the pups).

They had a great time and slept soundly all the way home!!

Family comes to visit over Fourth of July!!

I was lucky enough to get to watch one of Cloud and Kane's daughters over the weekend!!

Kane and Cloud were more than happy to open up and welcome back their lovely daughter Bono!!

She was the pup I was SO tempted to keep when she was little!! But a lovely family stepped up and wanted a girl. Bono was a perfect fit for their home.

It was great to see her show 'flashes' of both her hard working parents.

Bono was a joy to puppy sit thru the weekend!!

Of course I had to have a 'family' photo before she went back home!!

The passing of a great lady

The lady in this photo is Ida "Ree" Beckmann. (pictured here with four generations of dogs - many of which I own relatives of) She was the mother to my good friend Becky. I first met and spent time with her when I flew up to MN to pick up Kane and Ben. Her love for the dogs was so evident.

She passed away on March 2nd at the age of 81. She will be missed by so many!!

Here she is with "Dixi" who is a pup I bred (Imp. Cloud x Mac) and now lives with Becky in MN. Ree just loved taking care of the pups. She loved on them all the time!!

Kane and his kids were having a blast in the snow this week!!

These pups are from the Ellie litter. They just turned a year old on the 25th of this month!
We are very excited for what the future holds for them!!

More titles for Kane's kids!!!

When I was discussing other things with Becky Beckmann of Rising Sun Farms, she told me that "Ace" a Kane kid finished his MACH this weekend!! Lisa Bowers is his owner and handler and she has done just a wonderful job!!

Kane has produced many many nice pups prior to my purchase of him, including this one. But I still am very proud of what Kane has produced (even though I am not the breeder on these pups)!! This is not his first MACH offspring and I am pretty sure it won't be his last!!

I feel very blessed to have been able to buy such a talented stock dog especially knowing that he was also such a wonderful producer!! I will be forever grateful to Becky & Steve of Rising Sun Farms.

Training day on sheep!!

Sunday was spent working some of the dogs on sheep. The weather was wonderful, bright sunny very little wind and well above freezing (high of 48).

Kane was the helper dog for the day. His job was to either keep the sheep together if the pups got too wild and chasing ... or to get the sheep moving to encourage some interest from the pups. He loves his job!! As many times while I am paying more attention to what a pup is doing, he can get away with being a little overly pushy to the stock, not to mention the ability to 'stir things up' in order to get a pup interested is certainly right up his alley!!

Overall we had a great day. My main hope was to get the Ellie x Kane pups who are now almost 10 mos old keen to work stock. They have been exposed in the past but the situation has been a bit big overwhelming to them, and they all seemed just on the 'edge' of turning on. My hopes/wishes were granted on Sunday. All three pups (Dora, CueB and Zeke) have turned onto stock!! They certainly showed they know how to 'catch the eye' of a sheep as each of them found great fun in chasing the sheep into a corner and holding them there with their eyes. Very natural about shifting their bodies to keep the sheep from leaving even when the sheep clearly wanted to.
Zeke with the help of his father was able to face up to three sheep and back them up one of the fencelines. It was such a proud moment for me to see my beloved Kane showing his son how to be quiet, calm and not back down (but not rush in and bite) from three sheep stamping their feet at them.

Sadly with all the action going on, there was no way I could take photographs at the same time. I did try to set my video camera up in a corner of one small working field and hit record but with my attention to toward the young pups and the upcoming holiday, I have not stopped to even look to see what I got. IF there is anything usable, it will be added to my channel on YouTube.

Another wonderful day working dogs!! Certainly something to be thankful for!!
